To begin ...

As the twentieth century fades out
the nineteenth begins
.......................................again
it is as if nothing happened
though those who lived it thought
that everything was happening
enough to name a world for & a time
to hold it in your hand
unlimited.......the last delusion
like the perfect mask of death

Here is an early announcement of a launch and reading for A Paradise of Hearing (#9 in Joel Newberger’s Swan series), composed across English & Yiddish by Ariel Resnikoff and Jerome Rothenberg.  The full program, still being planned for May 23, will consist of a joint reading by Resnikoff and Rothenberg of Á Paradise of Hearing, followed by selections from Yiddish-“Objectivist” poet Mikhl Likht (with translations by Resnikoff); from Rothenberg's Likht Variations and Poland/1931 (the latter in English and in Yiddish translation); and from Resnikoff’s interlingual Yinglossia & other poems.  The final announcement of the event and program will re-appear here a few days before the actual performance.
